Samsung rolls out huge update for Samsung Health app; new features revealed for future Galaxy Watch
Highlights
- Samsung Health app is receiving a sleeker, more structured appearance.
- The upgrade makes it easier to access critical health information in a number of areas.
- The new health features will roll out on the next Galaxy Watch.
New major features coming to Galaxy Watch
Vitals: Every morning, this feature evaluates five critical nighttime bio-signals – heart rate, heart rate variability, respiration rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen – and compares them to your own baseline. It just lets you know when something is really wrong. That means less alert weariness, more valuable context regarding your recovery or prospective sickness.
Heart Health Score: Samsung has taken its current Vascular Load metric and expanded it into a more comprehensive Heart Health Score. It combines sleep, stress, activity and body composition data into one easy to comprehend daily score that focuses on long term heart fitness.
Daily Cardio Load: A smart training tool that measures your cardiovascular load and suggests the optimal training intensity and recovery intervals. This is very useful for fitness fanatics to train smartly without overdoing it.
Fitness Index: The function includes the ability to compare your fitness parameters, like VO2 max, heart rate, steps and more, to others that are a comparable age. Then it provides you with personalized insights and goals based on you.
A cleaner, more intuitive Samsung Health app design
Samsung Health app is getting a huge update with a thorough overhaul. Now I am going to present all the insights above, plus other metrics, in a simplified unified manner. The app has five categories: Sleep, Activity, Nutrition, Mindfulness and Vitals. There’s also a new homescreen widget that offers an AI-powered Energy Score based on your day’s activities.
Samsung Health app has also updated existing capabilities, such as the Antioxidant Index and AGEs Index, so you can get more detailed information about your nutrition and lifestyle. There’s also a new Hearing Health feature that allows your Galaxy Watch to measure the decibel levels of your surrounding noise - helping you safeguard your hearing on commutes or workouts.
Launch and availability
Samsung Health update will roll out on June 8th and it will be a preview of the features. But the complete functionality will come with the new Galaxy Watch releasing in a few months - presumably the Galaxy Watch 9 series. The Galaxy Watch 8 series and other existing watches should follow soon after with the upgrade.
Why it’s important
Apple and Google, Samsung’s biggest competitors, are aggressively moving into health-tracking. With this upgrade, Samsung is putting more focus on recovery signals, long‑term heart health and actionable daily advise. These are things that are important to users. A mix of deeper insights, reduced notification noise and improved ecosystem connection feels like a mature step forward for the Galaxy Watch on the world stage.
