Asus ROG 7 Ultimate Phone: First Look
The ROG Phone 7 Ultimate is the successor to the outgoing ROG Phone 6 Ultimate that launched in the second half of 2022 with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
Global: Computer hardware company Asus has unveiled the next iteration of its gaming smartphone series, the Asus ROG Phone 7 series. There are two models of the ROG Phone 7, the ROG Phone 7 and the rog 7 ultimate. As the name suggests, the ROG Phone 7 series is the successor to the ROG Phone 6 lineup that was announced last year with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
Unlike the ROG Phone 6 series, the ROG Phone 7 will launch in India around its worldwide launch time. We had a brief chance to test out the Asus rog 7 ultimate just days before its launch. Here’s our first impression of the Asus rog 7 ultimate.
Design and Hardware Updates
Besides the new internals, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate sports a little different design on the back compared to the ROG Phone 6 Pro. The camera sensor area remains the same between the 6 Pro and 7 Ultimate but it’s a lot cleaner in design aesthetics on the newer model. Asus has also included a heat-fin flap on the 7 Ultimate, which will enable the AeroActive Cooler to dissipate heat from the smartphone better. The nicest part about this heat-fin flap is it’s closed by default. It only opens if the phone is attached to the AeroActive cooler. Asus claimed that the heat-fin flap was inspired by traditional server technology. The AeroActive Cooler sucks air in, then blows it on the copper heat fins to cool them down. The users can also open the heat-fin flap to clean the fins and remove the accumulated dust. Other design characteristics include the front-facing dual speakers, the charging connector on the right side of the smartphone and AirTriggers on the left side are like the ROG Phone 6. These are well-designed enhancements that definitely make the rog 7 ultimate a step up.
Price & availability
Asus India has announced the availability of the ROG Phone 7 and rog 7 ultimate for Rs. 74,999 and Rs. 99,999 respectively with one RAM and storage option given for each device. As per the specifications table, the ROG Phone 7 will ship with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 internal storage. The Ultimate will be equipped with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Neither version will have expandable storage through a microSD card slot.
Asus has said that the ROG Phone 7 series would launch in India in May regarding availability. But the actual debut date is still to be announced. The company did clarify that both the gadgets will be available via Vijay Sales Stores and the official Asus ROG online store.
Initial impressions
In my short time with the Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, I saw that the Taiwanese tech titan has delivered some noteworthy upgrades in the design and audio parts. The gadget does pack the latest Qualcomm SoC, but I didn’t get enough time to judge the gaming performance and efficiency of the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate.
As with any Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 smartphone, I am sure the rog 7 ultimate will perform admirably. But we need more time to thoroughly analyse other gaming-specific software features, hardware upgrades, and external peripherals like the ROG AeroActive Cooler 7. We’ll be putting the phone through its paces in the coming weeks and will have our ultimate decision in a full review.
