Weekly poll: Getting the Motorola Razr Fold?
Motorola was fairly early to the flip foldable market with the Razr 2019, a few months ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip (these two were quite close due to a delayed debut). But Motorola is late to the party, with Samsung already starting the trend with a book-style foldable a year ago.
The Motorola Razr Fold is already available in several regions starting with the UK and Europe, then India, the US and Canada.
The Razr Fold has a 6.6” cover display that is an LTPO panel with 1080p+ resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio with up to 165Hz refresh rate. The inside display is an 8.1” LTPO panel with up to 120Hz refresh rate and a squarish aspect ratio (2,232 x 2,484px). You may use the optional Moto Pen Ultra stylus on either display.
Powering the phone is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (not the Elite version) and a rather decent 6,000mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. That’s way bigger than the 4,400mAh battery in the Galaxy Z Fold7 (25W wired / 15W wireless charging) and the 5,015mAh battery in the Pixel 10 Pro Fold (30W / 15W). That's the magic of Si/C batteries that Samsung, Google and Apple have refused to use so far.
The phone has a 50MP primary camera (big 1/1.28” sensor with OIS), a 50MP 3x/71mm periscope (1/1.95” sensor, OIS) and a 50MP ultra-wide module (122°). The front has two selfie cameras, a 32MP on the cover display and a 20MP on the interior.
The phone has IP48/IP49 rated submersion and water jet protection. It is 10.1mm thick when folded (compared to 8.9mm for the Samsung and 10.8mm for the Google phone) and weighs 243g (compared to 215g for the Samsung and 258g for the Google phone).
In the US and Canada, there are no book-style foldables apart from Samsung and Google (and shortly Apple), although they are available in Europe and India. For example, the Honor Magic V6 is coming shortly to Europe (price unknown, the V5 is available at €1,300).
The Motorola Razr Fold costs EUR 2,000 / GBP 1,800 / INR 150,000 / USD 1,900 / CAD 2,700, a little below the Galaxy Z Fold7 launch prices (and recall that Samsung had to raise prices recently, which will certainly effect the Z Fold8 too). This is no means an inexpensive foldable.
But is that enough to compete on merit? So basically if you have been searching for a book like foldable will you acquire the Motorola Razr Fold? If you’re still on the fence, check out our hands-on.
