Here's how the link invite system for Google Messages group chats will work (APK teardown)
TL;DR
- Google Messages could soon introduce a link invite system for group chats.
- The feature will let users invite new members to a group by sharing a link or QR code.
- Although not live yet, we've enabled the feature in the latest beta to give you an early look.
Google Messages is working on a link invite system that will make it much easier to add new people to your group chats. We first spotted this upcoming feature in a teardown earlier this year and gave you an early peek at the interface last month. Now, the latest Google Messages beta build includes additional changes that give us a crystal‑clear picture of how these google messages group chat invite links will work when they finally launch.

A quick note: An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive in the future based on work‑in‑progress code. But it's possible these predicted features might not make it to a public release.
How the invite system will work
As shown in the screenshots, the "Invite via link" option will appear on the group info page, right above the list of group members. Tapping it opens a new page with the group name and image at the top, followed by a toggle to enable the link invite feature. This is where google messages group chat invite links come to life.
Once enabled, the feature generates an invite link and offers four ways to share it:
Copy link – copies the invite link to your clipboard.
Send link – opens Google Messages' built‑in forward menu to share with a contact inside the app. Share link – opens the Android system share menu, so you can use another app (WhatsApp, email, etc.).
QR code – generates a QR code that invitees can scan to join the group. You can also save or share that QR code.
With these google messages group chat invite links, adding new members becomes a one‑tap process – no more manually typing phone numbers.
Other changes in the beta
In addition to the updated link invite interface, the latest beta also changes how you edit the group name. The old "Group name" option on the group info page is replaced with a new edit button (a pencil icon) right next to the group name at the top. It's a small but welcome tweak.
When will it arrive?
The changes aren't live in the beta release yet, but the link invite system seems to be nearing completion. We expect google messages group chat invite links to roll out in the coming weeks. We'll update this post as soon as the feature hits the stable channel. Once google messages group chat invite links go live, group management will be much simpler.
